Homicide Watch -- Cincinnati

Unfortunately, this page is always under construction.  There's too many stories that need to be told and remembered.  Let's not forget others' pain.  Email me at webmaster@stop-the-violence.org to have a loved one remembered here.

Buckner, Oralen Cunningham, Andrew Washington, Anthony Washington, Noelle Wright, Sharailyn

Some think of violent crime victims as numbers. There is that side of it. Please refer here to the Hamilton County Coroner's office.  The latest they have is for the year 2007 (never mind the title says 2006, it's edited wrong).

Oralen Buckner

June 22 - I got another email today from a family member of a murder victim. Those are such a cold words, "murder victim". What is a murder victim? Maybe we should be asking 'who' instead. Who is Oralen Buckner? One of us: a neighbor, a friend to many, an uncle to some.

Jaimee McClure sent me this: "We would like to do a candle lighting and balloon release for Oralen Buckner. He was gunned down on June 13, 2009. A lot of people witnessed the murder but of course no one knows anything. He was a true humanitarian. All these murders need to stop!!! Oralen would not hurt a fly he fell asleep on the metro and missed his stop, the bus driver woke him up and told him this was the last stop of the night, so Oralen got off and called his brother, he was killed before the brother came and got him. Something needs to be done, the streets are getting real crazy. It happened in the Fay Apartments. We just want justice and closure so we can forgive the one that pulled the trigger. Please help us."

Jaimee went on to tell me Mr. Buckner served with honors in the Army, from 1973 to 1979. He had everyone call him Uncle Oralen. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He was buried on Friday, the 19th. And, like Jaimee says, everyone who loved him is a victim, too.

Anthony & Noelle Washington, and Sharailyn Wright

June 6th, 2009 -- Just four days ago, two children, ages 9 months and three years old were murdered here in Cincinnati.  And a 19-year-old mother, too.

The mother, Noelle Washington, and the children, her son Anthony and Sharailyn Wright, were shot and killed in their apartment.  Why?  What kind of a horrible life is that, to feel so threatened or be so angry that you had to shoot a gun at two babies?

As of 6/26, the police have a suspect in custody, Mark Pickens. He is already charged with another shooting and is being held in jail. He is not yet charged with Noelle's death nor the two children due to a lack of evidence. Police are struggling to get witnesses to come forward. If no witnesses come forward, Pickens may never be charged with this crime.

Andrew Cunningham

January 5, 2008 -- Andrew was murdered during a home invasion robbery. He was shot at least three times in the chest during a home invasion Saturday night when one or more gunmen entered an Oakley home. His family misses him a lot.

As of mid-2009, his killing goes unsolved.
